ENROUTE CONFIGURATION
As you know there are many factors that determine the performance of an airplane. When we speak of performance, we are referring not only to runway performance, i.e. takeoff and landing, but also to enroute performance. Enroute performance encompasses not only cruise performance, true airspeed and nautical air miles per pound of fuel, but also enroute climb performance and drift down.
Enroute climb performance can be found in the AFM, while cruise performance is usually found in a supplementary document. Each one of these documents presents information in a given configuration and provides modifications for weight, temperature and altitude. If you do not operate the airplane in the configuration presented in the airplane documents, you cannot predict the performance of the airplane.
In addition to normal cruise flight, Approved Flight Manual Supplements exist for the following aircraft that in the configuration indicated:
ATR Gear Down (Revenue Operations)
EMB145 Gear Down (Ferry Flight Only)
Flaps 9 (Ferry Flight Only)
J41 Gear Down (Ferry Flight Only)
Other types of operations do not have approved performance.
